True Nature, Right in the City

4-Inch Profile | Beloved by Wildlife

This project was intended as and is currently used to demonstrate the incredible power of green roofing, even in a very minimal format. The roof is founded on a 4-inch profile, with sedum and allium and dianthus forming the species profile.

Although the green roof itself is very simple, it demonstrates a complex idea: that we don’t need a lot of growing media to create a powerful system for absorbing rainwater and housing animals (hello, killdeer!), right here in the urban environment.

We’re happy to say that this project is one of Wayne State’s first green roofs, with more to come.
